{"id":27103,"date":"2018-08-08T07:34:36","date_gmt":"2018-08-03T14:44:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brf-global.com\/?page_id=27103"},"modified":"2024-02-15T11:12:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-15T14:12:40","slug":"commitments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brf-global.com\/en\/sustainability\/animal-welfare\/commitments\/","title":{"rendered":"Commitments"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"theme-2\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">BRF believes that animal welfare is a strategy for the company\u2019s sustainable development and is one of the ethical principles involving animal production, allowing to improve the work environment, the human-animal relationship and, consequently, productivity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Well-being is a principle of BRF, and so that actions can take place in the best possible way, we engage multiple company functions, at all levels, including senior management. The key indicators and the evolution of public commitments are discussed monthly by the operations directors (agricultural and industrial), as well as in the vice presidency of Quality, R&amp;D and Sustainability. All decisions regarding the care and facilities where the animals are involved are subject to approval by the technical teams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For all of this to run smoothly, the Program Animal Welfare Made in BRF was created to concentrate the management of animal welfare. The Program has been in place since 2015 and is based on 6 pillars, namely:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">1 &#8211; Proper feeding;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2 &#8211; Proper environment;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3 &#8211; Good health conditions;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">4 &#8211; Natural behavior;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">5 &#8211; Humane management;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">6 &#8211; Training and awareness.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Animal Welfare Made in BRF aims to positively transform the entire BRF chain, with a view to maximizing animal welfare practices in synergy with increased production. To have this done, it is sponsored by the vice presidency of Quality, R&amp;D and Sustainability and is supported by a group of specialists. Below is the governance assigned to address this commitment:<\/p>\n<div class=\"theme-2\">\n<div class=\"w w--image w--prod w--center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/ingles-cultura.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n    <\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">BRF is strictly committed to zero tolerance to animal mistreatment, whether through abuse or neglect. In case of any wrongful conduct in this regard, investigation is initiated and, if any wrongdoing is proven, penalties are imposed. Animal welfare is also part of collaboration agreements with producers, transporters and employees. The company has been attempting to avoid routine mutilation and eliminate, as far as possible, these practices. Reducing confinement also avoids stress, and health and physiological problems caused by the little movement. System transition will meet the requirements of European Union legislations regarding group housing for pregnant sows.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card__header\"><a class=\"ave\" href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/brf-global\/assets\/images\/img-chicken.png\" alt=\"\"> POULTRY <\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"card__content\">\n<div class=\"w w--image w--prod\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/pintinho.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>1) ACQUISITION OF <em>CAGE-FREE<\/em> EGGS FOR THE INDUSTRIAL PROCESS<br \/><\/b>BRF has committed to refrain from buying eggs from suppliers that raise caged chickens, by 2025. These eggs are used in our manufacturing processes. In BRF, no poultry is raised in cages. The fulfillment status of this commitment so far is 0%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2019<br \/>Executed: 35% of the stock in a group housing system for pregnant sows.<br \/>We have met the goal for 2019 and have 35% of our stock of sows in a group housing system for pregnant sows.
